Socio-Demographic, Economic and Financial Database updated to 31.12.2013

The update involved the micro-territorial datasets on socio-demographics (Italians and Foreigners), Income, Consumption (Food and Non-Food) and Wealth which were updated to 31.12.2013.

Milan, 18-11-2015

We are pleased to announce that we have completed an important update which involves most of our Statistical Databases which are immediately available to the users of our online GeoMarketing platforms.

Specifically, the update ivolved:

  • Demographic Data: All data on resident individuals and families (Italians and foreigners) are now referred to 31.12.2013. Data result from a complex computing and estimation process which - starting from the 2011 census data - reconstructed the demographic changes of the resident population based on the anagraphic registries of Italy's 8,047 municipalities (which the Italian National Institute of Statistics - ISTAT consolidates annually). The reconstruction work was conducted at the maximum detail level (402,121 census blocks) so to ensure the same territorial representation of the original data.

  • Income, Asset and Financial Data: All data on Avalilable Income and Net Wealth (Financial Assaets, Real Estate, Net Worth) are now referred to the year 2013. As always, starting point is the Bank of Italy's survey on Italian Families' Balance Sheets (IBFI), which is fielded every other year.
The calculation and estimation process was carried out at the maximum detail level (402,121 ensus blocks) and used several additional data sources. Specifically, we used the new (2013) socio-demographic stratification, municipal tax return data by thousand-euro bracket (Revenue Agency 2013), real estate values by cadastral microzone (Territory Agency 2013).

  • Consumption Data All data on Gross COnsumption (Food and Non-Food) are now referred to the Year 2013. The starting point is as always the survey on Italian Families' Consumption carried out yearly by the Italian National Institute of Statistics (ISTAT). This survey has a very high coverage of Food consumption (over 95%) but, despite the large scale, has a much lower coverage of Non-Food products and services (75-80%).
To overcome this shotcoming since many years we integrate the survey on Italian Families' Consumption with other institutional sources, notably National Accounting data, which ISTAT computes every year for the Ministry of Economy.
Also for Consumption our calculation and estimation process was carried out at the maximium level of detail (402,121 census blocks) and used several additional data sources to strengthen microterritorial estimates. Specifically, we used the new (2013) socio-demographic stratification, the new (2013) Avaliable Income estimates and the real estate values by cadastral microzone (Territory Agency 2013) which were combined into different estimation models depending on the type of expenditure. For example, expenditure for home rental was estimated by crossing the raw data surveyed by ISTAT with the number of families renting their home, data on housing size and the data on rental prices collcted by the Territory Agency. Finally the estimate was squared (by region) with National Accounts (cod COICOP 04.1).
